Clive Coward
About
Clive Coward is a freelance historical collections and image licensing consultant with over 30 years' experience across the commercial and cultural sectors. He has managed image licensing departments at Tate and the British Museum, and has worked with the historical collections of Wellcome and the Royal Geographical Society, as well as with Bridgeman Images. He has also worked closely with BAPLA industry suppliers 20/20 Software and SmartFrame, was a member of BAPLA's Museum Group, and has recently completed consultancy assignments for DACS.
Clive offers specialist consultancy and project support for organisations, estates, archives, picture libraries and photographers. With extensive experience in photographic collection management and image licensing, he can assist with both short and long-term projects. Services include workflow reviews and optimisation, copyright research, image licensing, picture research, cataloguing, digitisation project management, and advice on licensing models, fee structures and online collection access. He is also experienced in managing projects involving 20/20 Software and SmartFrame, helping clients maximise the value, accessibility and commercial potential of their collections.
Alongside his professional work, Clive has a particular interest in historical photography and the discovery and interpretation of under-researched photographic archives. He developed and edited Nigel Henderson's Streets, published by Tate Publishing, and is currently researching the photographic work of Barbara Ker-Seymer, a London photographer working in portraiture, fashion, editorial and advertising photography during the 1930s, through the Barbara Ker-Seymer Project.
Fees are tailored to each project. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
